Wintering: Slowing Down with Yoga
Winter invites a different kind of pace than the one our hustle culture loves to sell in January. Rather than pushing for resolutions or reinvention, this season asks us to winter - to slow down, rest, and listen deeply.
I’ve leaned into wintering as a practice for the last few years. From studying The Yoga Sutras, I understand that growth largely arises from steady practice (abhyasa) and being unattached to outcomes (vairagya) - not from sheer resolve. Wintering embodies this teaching beautifully: right now, I’m tending the metaphorical soil rather than demanding the harvest. When the light returns and warmth builds, the seeds that had time to take root will transform. But for now, I’m just quietly nurturing the sparks of inspiration within me with trust that the process of becoming is underway. I don’t need to force it.
Consider this an invitation to bring the spirit of wintering to your yoga mat with me today and each Sunday at 9:00am Eastern. Together, we’ll move slowly, breathe deeply, and practice without urgency or expectation. Sunday mornings don’t work? The Online Membership houses nearly 200 on demand yoga, meditation, breath and wellness practices. I’ll see you on the mat!
