Coherence in Practice
I’ve been thinking about coherence a lot lately. How do we make sense of our conflicting inner experiences and integrate them into a coherent whole? Coherence doesn’t ask us to get rid of strong emotions or simplify what is complex. Coherence brings with it awareness and choice so that even anger, uncertainty, and a variety of mixed feelings can be held in relationship rather than in isolation.
In the Bhagavad Gita, steadiness is described as acting from presence rather than reactivity, and remaining connected to the Self even during strong emotion or difficult action. As coherence grows, steadiness can emerge not from control or suppression, but from integration: thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations begin to align, so you can stay grounded without rejecting any part of your experience.
Yoga practice is a space to build the skills that help us meet ourselves with coherence and care. I’d love to see you in a live class soon. I teach Focused Flow Yoga every Sunday at 9:00am eastern. I also offer a monthly Restorative Yoga class - the next one is Thursday, February 19 at 7:00pm eastern. All classes are recorded and available on demand, too!
