October: Lean into Trust

My recent yoga classes have been building a foundation for this month’s theme of trust. In August, we explored discernment in order to tune in, recognize what we need, and make choices with intention. Last month, equilibrium gave us permission to respond to ever-changing needs to find our footing as things shift. Now, all the work of late summer has woven together with an invitation to trust the inner wisdom that we’ve uncovered.

Diving into trust this month has had the unexpected side effect of leaning into the trust I have in myself and my skills as a teacher. Introducing monthly class themes was a new goal for me this year, and somewhere along the way, I started to feel a little boxed in by the expectation I created for myself. This month, I've approached my classes differently. I hold space on Sunday and Thursday mornings with an idea, but no prepared sequence. I ask students how they’re feeling before we begin and teach to the specific requests they make. I trust that I know enough as an experienced yoga educator for class to land where and how it’s meant to.

It's been a good reminder that trust grows when we give ourselves the opportunity to practice and lean into it. We can draw on what we've learned, pay attention to what's happening right now, and trust ourselves to respond without trying to control the process or outcome. As we move through the final week of October and into November, I'd love for you to come to class with your requests and questions. We'll figure it out together.

In the meantime, keep listening to that inner guide of yours. You might be surprised by how much wisdom is already there.
