August Discernment

In this month’s classes, we’ve been exploring the theme of discernment - the ability to pause, notice, and make choices anchored in clarity. I’ve been inviting students to get curious about the decisions they make on the mat: Am I choosing this pose variation because it’s my familiar default? Is my choice driven by expectation, challenge, ease, habit, something else? What might shift if I choose what genuinely supports me in this moment?

The Yoga Sutras offer a framework for this in Sutra 2.26, which points to viveka, or discriminative discernment, as a way to remove obstacles and achieve clarity. In my experience, the more we practice noticing and choosing with intention on the mat, the more clearly we can navigate the constant stream of information and choices that saturate our days off the mat.

I’m back to teaching my regularly scheduled weekly Thursday and Sunday classes. These classes are included as part of the Online Membership, or you can purchase a drop in pass. Hope to share time with you soon!
